Indoor Air Quality
Cleaner, fresher air for tight Toronto homes.
Modern airtight construction is great for energy bills and rough on indoor air. We add the filtration, ventilation, and humidity control that keeps a sealed house healthy.
Whole-Home Air Filtration
The 1-inch furnace filter at the bottom of your duct does the bare minimum. A 4 or 5-inch media cabinet (MERV 11 to 13) or an electronic air cleaner captures dust, pollen, and pet dander without choking airflow. We retrofit filter cabinets onto existing forced-air systems and recommend the right MERV rating for your blower.
Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs)
Newer Toronto homes and renovated older homes are sealed tight to meet code, which traps cooking smells, CO₂, and humidity inside. An HRV brings in fresh outdoor air and exhausts stale indoor air without dumping your heating bill out the window — it recovers heat from the outgoing air and uses it to warm the incoming air. For homes with no central ventilation, this is the single biggest air-quality upgrade you can make.
Humidifiers
Toronto winters dry homes out below 20% relative humidity, which cracks hardwood floors, dries sinuses, and makes static electric. A bypass or steam humidifier mounted on your ductwork holds your home between 35 and 45 percent automatically. We install Aprilaire and Honeywell, and we tune the humidistat with the outdoor temperature so windows don't fog.
When to Think About IAQ
- Allergies or asthma worse indoors than outdoors
- Visible dust returning hours after you clean
- Windows fogging in winter (humidity too high)
- Static shocks, dry skin, cracking hardwood (too dry)
- Cooking smells lingering for hours
- Brand-new airtight build with no HRV installed
