A tankless water heater heats water as fixtures call for it instead of storing a full tank around the clock. That can free mechanical- room space and provide long draws of hot water, but only when the unit is sized for the household's simultaneous demand and the installation supports it.
Start with hot-water demand
Tankless capacity is about flow rate and temperature rise, not tank volume. A single shower is different from two showers, a dishwasher, and a kitchen tap running together. Incoming winter water is also colder, so the appliance has to do more work to reach the same outlet temperature.
We review the number of bathrooms, fixtures used at the same time, household routines, and any high-flow tubs or shower systems. That gives the installation a realistic design target instead of relying on a best-case brochure number.
What has to be checked before installation
- Gas supply: the existing line and meter must be assessed for the new appliance and the other gas equipment it serves.
- Venting and combustion air: routing, termination, clearances, and manufacturer requirements affect where the unit can go.
- Condensate: high-efficiency equipment needs a suitable drain path and any required treatment.
- Water piping: isolation valves and service access make future flushing and maintenance practical.
- Electrical supply: controls and freeze protection need dependable power even though the water is heated by gas.

Tankless is not right for every house
A complicated vent path, inadequate gas capacity, unusually high simultaneous demand, or an otherwise simple and reliable tank setup can change the economics. We compare the installation work and the way your household uses hot water before recommending a conversion.
If the existing water heater only needs a repair, start with our water-heater repair service. A repairable control, ignition, mixing, or maintenance problem does not automatically justify new equipment.
Tankless water heater or combi boiler?
A tankless water heater serves domestic hot water. A combi boiler provides domestic hot water and hydronic space heating from one appliance. If your home uses radiators or in-floor heating and the boiler also needs replacement, review boiler and combi-boiler installation before choosing two separate systems.
Maintenance after installation
Tankless equipment still needs maintenance. Water quality, scale, inlet filtration, venting, condensate drainage, and combustion all affect long-term performance. The installation should include clear service access and an explanation of the maintenance required for the chosen equipment.

Can a tankless unit replace my existing gas tank?
Often, but it is not always a direct swap. The gas line, vent route, combustion air, condensate drainage, electrical supply, water piping, and installation location all need to be checked first.
